Daoc had a good upkeep system that sent you your house deed and all your housing items if you took a long break. If you decided to come back, you could just plop your house back down at no cost. It also allowed you to pay an unlimited amount of upkeep if you were planning an extended break, but wanted your house to stay in its spot. The weekly upkeep would draw from this pool until exhausted. Due to the upkeep, you could buy ffxiv gil also cheapen the plot prices allowing a lot more people to experience the housing content.
Thats what should be done imo. Of course, they would need to fix these plot tiers and simply charge based on size (small, medium, large) for this to work. I mean, should 1 plot really be worth 1-17mil more than another plot of the same size? The price differences that people already paid could be added to the upkeep so its fair to those that paid the extra money for better plots. If tiers really matter that much (5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st class), simply adjust the upkeep based on this. They also need to fix extortion by giving the house a random time window after its relinquished before the game puts it back on sale.
I seriously think something like this would help solve most housing problems. As it stands how. All but 1 FC and 2 personal houses are used from what I see in my FC's ward. Thats 28 unused houses, most of which are actually empty because the person never used it. The solution to add more wards is a horrible idea. 5+ years from now, how many of the current players that bought a house are still going to be around? It seems like such a waste of money. You cheap ffxiv gil also dont want a ward count to high if my solutions are implemented, as empty wards remove that neighborhood feeling.
